Hi everyone, my name is Andrea Greenslade, and this is my showcase, The Phoenix Project concept which addresses the wicked problem being that Brisbane is needing a better awareness and information system for natural disaster-displaced residents. Displacement as a result of natural disasters is an increasing problem in Brisbane. Climate change, the covid pandemic and natural disasters over the last 12 months have put a strain on support networks. People forced to move due to homes being uninhabitable or lost have suddenly found unprecedented competition in long-term rental accommodation. The Phoenix project, in conjunction with the local Councils and State Government entities, has a database of properties that are within or historically vulnerable to flood or disaster events. For such properties, the Phoenix project intends to send out a free stocked emergency kit to be present within the dwelling. The emergency kit will look like the prototype I have made, is waterproof, fire resistant, floatable and will contain a number of items such as a wind-up torch/radio, emergency contacts and evacuation centre information along with a pre-paid go card and fridge magnet. All documents contained within the kit are printed on waterproof paper. The kit has designated pockets and zips positioned to maintain optimal functionality during a time when you need your hands free. My prototype was introduced at the recent get-ready expo and interest was shown in its potential and innovation which is quite exciting.
